Silicon Alley Sports Schmoozer

Discrete use of email and text (but not voice) on mobile devices is allowed throughout the Clubhouse, so long as it does not interfere with the enjoyment of other members or guests. Mobile devices must be kept on silent or vibrate at all times.

Phone calls may be made or received in the parking lot, locker rooms, Pool area, or the Private Dining Room.

We will be hosted by the Ardsley Country Club, the location of many SAS events and many fun memories.

In 1895, newspapers across the country carried detailed reports of the opening of a prestigious new club on the banks of the Hudson River. With the support of some of the most notable and successful men in the United States — Jay Gould, Cornelius Vanderbilt, J. Pierpont Morgan, William Rockefeller, and Amzi Lorenzo Barber — the establishment of The Ardsley Casino was a nationally noted event.

The original clubhouse overlooked the Hudson River on the site where Hudson House now stands, opposite the Ardsley-on-Hudson railroad station. Its private dock accommodated the yachts of Casino members. The “finest and longest golf course in the world” was designed by golfing great Willie Dunn, who also served as the Club's first Golf Professional. The course was later redesigned by Donald Ross and Dr. Alister Mackenzie. In 1898, Ardsley hosted the third USGA Women's Amateur Golf Tournament.

In 1966, the clubhouse was moved to its present location, the former home of Justine Bayard Cutting Ward and later Frank Jay Gould. Paddle courts, a curling facility, and a new swimming pool were built nearby. Ardsley's course was again altered and improved by The Robert Trent Jones Organization. Nine Har-Tru tennis courts remain at their original riverside location.

Times have changed since those early days, but Ardsley's traditions have not. Club members still gather here with their families to enjoy the fellowship, social, and sporting activities that drew its original members from New York City in horse-drawn carriages many years ago.

We are all coming to the Silicon Alley Sports event because we want to have a good time and network with each other outside of Manhattan. We've hand-picked every single attendee and know everyone.

My ask to everyone is to be open, say hi to people, introduce yourselves, and don't be a dick or asshole. There will be players better than you. There will be players worse than you. Have fun.

In this tournament, smiles and laughter are more important than the number of aces you hit. If someone is alone, go over and offer a beverage. Everyone is here because they make Silicon Alley happen — and you probably want to know them.
