The Icon Award

Presented by
John Hardy

Given to the participant who best embodies the spirit of Silicon Alley Sports — competing hard, while making everyone else feel like they belong.

The Belief

“Creation is a collective process fueled by community.”

— John Hardy

That’s the belief at the heart of everything John Hardy makes. It’s also a pretty perfect description of what Silicon Alley Sports is at its best — a community where the work that matters happens between the points, in the conversations between holes, at the edge of the schmooze.

What it recognizes

Three things, in plain language.

Lifts Others Up

The player who notices when someone needs a hand and quietly extends one. The teammate, opponent, or stranger who makes you feel like you belong.

Makes the Game Better

A presence that elevates everyone in the room — not just on the scoreboard. Adds energy, generosity, humor. The kind of person you want at the next event, regardless of skill level.

Competes With Grace

Plays it straight. Brings every ounce. Wins or loses with equal humanity. Proves that being competitive and being a good human are not mutually exclusive.

Most importantly

Don’t be an asshole.

It’s our most important rule. We’ve said it from the start. The Icon Award goes to whoever lives it best.

About the Presenter

John Hardy

John Hardy

John Hardy is a jewelry house with roots in Bali, known for handcraft, sustainable practices, and a community-driven approach to design. Every piece passes through the hands of artisans who carry forward generations of technique.

Their belief that great work emerges from collective community — not solo authorship — is exactly the spirit Silicon Alley Sports tries to bring to a sports tournament. We’re grateful they wanted to put their name on the award that recognizes it.
