Stories from Our Community
Matt Tepper
CMO, John Hardy
For me, SAS events are all about the people. Darren does an incredible job of including talented and, most importantly, good people. Everyone I've met (literally everyone) has been positive, open and interesting. I have met many people who I now consider friends - and who are happy to jump in and help when I need advice, feedback or a connection.
Favorite Memory
My favorite memory is from the last tennis event with Patrick McEnroe. Being able to hang out with him and around 20 other people to hear his stories about the tour and his career was an amazing experience.
Advice for Newcomers
Be open to meeting new people - but don't just hit the surface, find a few people you connect with and go deeper. They will have an amazing story.

President & COO, Attain
I've had such great experiences over the years at these events it's hard to pick just one. Like Matt said it's all about the people and the community. It's always a fantastic day regardless of rain, sun or even oppressive heat!
Favorite Memory
Maybe being able to play at BJK Tennis Center would be the one. That was an incredible day!
Advice for Newcomers
Get there early, stay late and talk to 3 people you've never met before. You'll enjoy the conversation and the network building!

SAS/SAGI is to sports what Cheers was to TV. A place to come, pull up a seat and just talk. Each year, just like a season of Cheers, there's evolution as the characters evolve and the topics relate to the period. However, SAGI is a place where everyone knows your name and… there's always a drink and cast of personalities ready to have a chat about whatever is on your mind.

There is magic in the Silicon Alley Sports event - if you let it happen. You will not know everyone and that's the goal. You should come with an open heart, open mind, and a big smile. Say hi to everyone - talk to folks you do not know. You are amongst great people, so all you need to do is chat...

The Play Well, Do Good "thing" is real.

I've known Matt for years, but it was him that got me on the paddle court for the first time at a SAS event. I now play competitively and in doing so have met more great people with common interests (personal and business).
Favorite Memory
Nick is another example of a friend made at SAS - we happen to kick ass and win the Tournament together - and in addition to that, he also introduced my kids to Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. As you can imagine, they will never be the same.
Advice for Newcomers
The stories go on and on -- the SAS community is quite special and every year, every event brings a new opportunity to expand your horizons, meet new interesting people and get away from the screen, the phone, and the office.

Despite the threatening forecast, heavy rains when we arrived, and constant downpours during the round, I recall virtually everyone showing up, participating and having a great time. That's because we all value the friendship and camaraderie that comes with participating in SAGI. It's not just a round of golf — it's a valuable and special network.
Favorite Memory
One great memory is the year 2014 when we had torrential rains the entire time.
